The numerous clients of GCAS cover a diverse range of both industries and operating systems. Naturally this then requires auditors who have the ability to deal with many different systems.

Recent changes in community attitudes to auditors and their relationship with their clients has impacted on the approach that GCAS takes with its clients. The relationship has, by necessity, become one in which the client takes responsibility for the financial reports and the role of GCAS is as an external auditor.

GCAS, even though a part of the internal audit department of the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, does not conduct internal audits. Within the boundaries of the SPD Working Policy, GCAS works to maintain a high level of independence from the various clients to ensure integrity in the auditing process.

GCAS is operating in a changing environment. An increasing number of clients are required to lodge accounts with government due to changes in government legislation. Accordingly, the auditors within GCAS are required to know and understand the various pieces of legislation that are fast becoming a part of the church landscape.

Our aim is to serve the church to the best of our ability, ensuring that all clients are audited appropriately. The range of clients means that it is a challenging environment in which to work. Extensive travel throughout the SPD is a part of the role of a church auditor. Whilst it can make life a little difficult, it also has its rewards.
